SCBWIAustEast joined forces with the incredibly passionate librarians from ASLA for an inspiring, funny and warm few days during their biennial teacher librarian conference.
Twelve wonderfully talented SCBWI Qld members, along with the leadership team, presented a three hour sold out masterclass, where each creator shared a mini Masterclass in kids’ book creating with selected readings.
The morning was broken up into three sessions: Creating Super Storytellers with Deborah Abela, Dimity Powell, Dee White and Ali Stegert.
Creating Remarkable Researchers with Susanne Gervay, Candice Lemon-Scott, Aleesah Darlison and Charlotte Barkla.
Creating Vibrant Visual Narratives with Marjorie Crosby-Fairall, Anil Tortop, Lucia Masciullo and Katrin Dreiling.
Our stellar readers were Kate Foster, Pamela Rushby, Jo Sandhu and Jacqui Halpin.
The TLs left excited and buzzing and we’re so proud of our talented, generous and warm SCBWI members.
For the next two days, we mingled around the SCBWI stand, beautifully decorated by the SCBWI Qld team and showcasing SCBWI talent.
We also had the chance to celebrate the launch Susanne Gervay’s new YA book, Edge of Limits, at the children’s bookshop, Where the Wild Things Are in Brisbane’s West End. To a packed house, Susanne spoke with great passion and energy (of course) about her story of consent, masculinity and navigating the world of teen sexual politics and identity.
Thank you to the stellar team who worked so hard and to the incredibly joyous ASLA team of Natalie, Sophie, Martha, Wendy and Sonia, who brought together over 250 teacher librarians for a joyous celebration of books and stories. We look forward to partnering with ASLA again for future bookish events!
