Macquarie University's National Artists' Survey Deadline to apply Sept 10

Macquarie University has approached SCBWI and other artistic organisations to be part of their latest national artists’ surveys. These surveys, carried out over many years, have yielded results that can be generalised to the whole population of artists. This is because their surveys are NOT an “opt-in” survey where a general invitation goes out, and any artist who is interested can participate. The survey is by invitation only, which enables them to build up a sample of each artistic occupation (writer, visual artist, craftsperson, actor, dancer, musician, composer, community artist) that is representative of the population of those artists.

The first 90 SCBWI members to express interest in completing the survey, will be sent an invitation by SCBWI explaining what is involved if the artist chooses to participate. The decision on whether to participate is entirely up to the individual artist. The letter will contain a registration link. If the artist decides to participate, they will click on the link that will take them to a short series of questions (“screening questions”) which will determine their eligibility as a practising professional artist in their artform. If they satisfy the eligibility criteria, the survey company which will be carrying out the survey will forward them the link to the main survey.

WHAT ARTISTS WILL DO

The survey itself is in two parts -- an online survey component, and a short (less than 10 minutes) personal telephone interview with an interviewer from the company engaged to carry out the survey. The survey company is Faster Horses and their market research arm is Q&A Research. Only interviewers who have been specifically trained for this survey and understand artists will be doing the personal interviews.

WHY THIS PROCEDURE MEETS PRIVACY REQUIREMENTS

An artist’s participation in the survey will be entirely voluntary and anonymous. The research team will not know to whom the invitation is being sent. In fact, the only organisation that will know the identity of the participating artists is the survey company, which will be subject to the strictest requirements for the artists’ anonymity and confidentiality. It has been the practice in all our surveys that none of the research team knows the identity of artists in the survey – all the data is de-identified when it comes to us.

PAYMENT

Artists who complete the survey will be reimbursed for their time via an $80 voucher that will be emailed to them when they have finished both parts of the survey (this amount is calculated as a professional fee appropriate to the time taken to complete the survey).

If you are interested, please complete this jotform and you will be contacted if you have been selected.
