A number of SCBWI Qld authors and illustrators had their picture books read on Channel 9 Go over the past few weeks, which was very exciting!
The Queensland Department of Education’s Reading Centre has been asked to put together reading episodes for the Channel 9 program reading@home TV aimed at Kindy to Year 2 children. This is to ensure children learning at home still have access to quality children’s literature during the pandemic. Each episode features two quality picture books. One of our Reading Coaches, who is an experienced teacher, reads each book in an episode followed by a short teachable moment then a presenter conducts a craft or dance activity, similar to what a classroom teacher might do with her young students. This takes about 11 minutes of air time, which Channel 9 is providing as in-kind. Authors and publishers have been asked to allow their books to be read as an in-kind gesture as well during this time while children are learning at home. I am looking for local south-east Qld authors.
The following authors and illustrators have been featured so far;
Michelle Worthington ~ Glitch;
Dimity Powell ~ Pippa (both books illustrated by Andrew Plant)
Guiseppe Poli ~ Young MacDonald
Yvonne Mes & Guiseppe Poli ~ Oliver's Grumbles
Peter Canavas ~ A Quiet Girl
Jacqui Halpin & Sandra Severgnini ~ Where's Lucky?
Dannika Patterson & Megan Forward ~ Scribbly Gum Secrets
Martine Miller ~ Dad's Wishing the Rain Would Come
Chris Collin ~ Funky Chicken - A Bushy Tale of Crocs and Chickens (But his membership lapsed over a year ago)
