Early last May I was delighted to discover I was the SCBWI Featured Illustrator for the month, with an artwork from “My Sunbeam Baby” gracing the home page of the website, and my flower babies springing up all over the SCBWI social media channels.
I’d submitted an email application to Sarah at SCBWI HQ several weeks earlier, having made sure my Illustrator Gallery had a full wall of examples of my work, including (as recommended) a couple of images with dimensions that would allow them to slip easily into the home page banner.
As a Featured Illustrator my work reached a large number of people all over the world, leading to new connections and possibilities, and I was touched by the generosity of other SCBWI members who wrote to tell me how happy they were to see such diversity reflected in my illustrations. In fact it has been the author and illustrator interactions and the friendships I’ve made since becoming a member in 2018 that have brought the biggest rewards, as it was exactly this kind of sense of community I was seeking as I pored over the Illustrator Gallery pages and filled in the SCBWI membership form all those months ago.
You can find all the details about how to apply to be a SCBWI Featured Illustrator (including the recommended image dimensions), here.
