‘I am not dead!’ is how Susanne Gervay welcomed all the excited SCBWI-ites to the sold-out 2019 SCBWI Conference in Sydney, held at the Novotel Central.
Susanne was not kidding, after a serious health scare in the few weeks leading up to the conference, she was there, full of energy and with her wit and humour intact.
After the acknowledgement of country, it was down to business.
Susanne introduced her conference team with ‘these are my besties’: Deborah Abela, Marjorie Crosby Fairall, Jodie Wells-Slowgrove Margaret, Sue Whiting and Margaret Roc.
There were many of new faces and first-timers at this SCBWI conference, who Susan trusted to the care of mother duck, Ramona Davey.
With lots of laugh, and a relaxed atmosphere established, Susanne had one more word of advice: ‘We are community, everything we give we get back.’
