Pitching your Work to Publishers
SCBWI Conference 13-16 July 2014
Pitch Session on Monday 14th at 3pm
Hear what the publishers have to say about effective pitching – both written and verbal.
Then there are the real pitches.
8 delegates will be able to pitch.
If you want to be in the draw, submit your pitch.
What to submit?
- Your name and where you live.
- Genre – Picture books? YA? Fantasy?
- Write your shout lines. For example in Susanne Gervay’s YA novel That’s Why I Wrote This Song, the shout line is: Driven by the songs Psycho Dad and I Wanna be Found, the lyrics and music drive the narrative, of That’s Why I Wrote This Song. This is the journey of 4 girls and a brother, and their relationships with their fathers, the good, the bad and the ugly, as they search for friendships, love, who they are, set against the real music scene from Big Day Out to Eminem.
- Write and include several paragraphs (approx. 10 lines) from your Manuscript that you could read aloud.
The time allocated is 3 minutes.
Short, sharp and effective!
