Hazel Edwards' gender diverse YA novel morphs into graphic novel

December 16, 2019

Congrats to Hazel Edwards and her co-creators Ryan Kennedy and Sam Orchard on the publication of

The Boy Within

For ages 12+ LBTQI

'The Boy Within' graphic novel, to be drawn by transguy Sam Orchard who has just received the NZCreative Award, is inspired by 2010 YA 'coming of age’ novel ‘f2m;the boy within’ by Ryan Kennedy & Hazel Edwards.

Diverse gender and language attitudes have changed since 2010 when Ford Street risked publishing. It is appropriate now for the 2 transguys to co-create this project inspired by the original book 'f2m;the boy within' the first co-written by an ftm (female to male).

Creative NZ has funded graphic novel 'The Boy Within' drawn by trans guy Sam Orchard in collaboration with trans guy & co-author of the original YA 'coming of age' 'f2m; the boy within' Ryan Kennedy. Sam drew origial Rooster Tails cartoon.

Fab project - congrats again Hazel, Ryan and Sam!

PS: Hazel’s latest book is in an interesting format. It’s a mini mystery for adults - Wed, Then Dead on the Ghan:
