The Book Chook a CBCA Notable

March 25, 2020

Congrats to Amelia McInerney on her fab picture book

The Book Chook

being a

Notable Book, (Early Childhood category), CBCA Awards 2020

Illustrated by Connah Brecon

Published by Omnibus Books, Scholastic Australia, in hardback

For ages 2 - 8.

A funny, rhyming picture book about a panicky chicken who freaks out when he realises he’s not a real chook, but just a drawing of one in the book. Think Woody Allen meets Foghorn Leghorn.
Themes: self-acceptance, anthropomorphism, humour.

A strong contender for the Shortlist I’d say - good luck and congrats again Amelia!

Katrina Germein and Danny Snell win Speech Pathology Book of the Year Award

November 26, 2019

Congrats to clever SCBWI members Danny Snell and Katrina Germein on winning the coveted

Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Award 2019 (0 - 3 years)

for

Let’s Go Strolling

Published by Little Book Press (Raising Literacy Australia), in hardback

For birth to five years.

This charming tale cpatures the simple joys of a family walk. Filled with the things that delight small children, young readers will love finding familiar objects on every page. A sweet, rhyming book that promotes language development and outdoor fun.

Judges comments: ‘The text is excellent for early language learners as it models simple, early expressive phrases, while allowing parents to elaborate on key words. The rhyming is perfect. The pictures are highly engaging and readily identifiable by young children.’

What an honour and a thrill - congrats again Katrina and Danny!
