Kaye Baillie shortlisted for NSW Premier's History Awards

September 28, 2019
message-in-a-sock.jpg

Congrats to Kaye Baillie the shortlisting of her picture book

Message in a Sock

for the

NSW Premier’s History Awards.

Illustrated by Narelda Joy

Published by MidnightSun, in hardback.

For ages 5 - 9.

Tammy is safe at home, but her heart is at the war front. While her mother knits socks for the soldiers, Tammy slips a message inside each pair. Will her message find her father, and bring him safely home?

Judges’ comments: Kaye Baillie writes through the eyes of Tammy, making war feel intimate and disconcerting rather than simply national or heroic. It is a striking and important addition to popular WW1 histories.

Great stuff - congrats again Kaye!
