Penny Reeve wins Caleb Prize

January 6, 2017

Congrats to Penny Reeve, who with her illustrator Jemima Trappel has won

the Caleb Prize 2016, Children's Picture Books, for Fearlessly Madison

Published by CEP Growing Faith, in hardback

For ages 2 - 7.

The Caleb prize recognises excellence in faith-inspired writing, in a variety of categories each year, celebrating published and unpublished work.

Fearlessly Madison, the second in the Madison series, is about facing fears, and having the courage to help others do the same. The first book, Wonderfully Madison, was the category winner in 2013.

Definitely on a role Penny - congrats again!

Book of the Year Award 2016 - Best Book for Language & Literacy Development - Indigenous Books for Children

for The Pearl-shell Diver.

For ages 9 - 13+

The Pearl-shell Diver is the gripping adventure of Sario, a 13 year old island boy from Torres Strait in 1898. This authentic historical fiction includes a map, history timeline and indigenous customs from the pearling days of Torres Strait.

Lots of short listings, but hardly ever hear of anyone actually winning! ;-) Great stuff Kay!

Susanne Gervay wins Society of Women Writers Award

October 25, 2016

Yet another honour for our wonderful RA Susanne Gervay! This time it's the

Society of Women Writers Biennial Children's Book Award 2016

for her evergreen favourite Being Jack

Illustrated by Cathy Wilcox

Published by Harper Collins Australia, in paperback

For ages 9 - 12

Jack is an 'everyman' - funny, loving and courageous, like all kids. Being Jack challenges kids and adults to think about bullying, family and relationships - and who they are. It makes kids laugh, but also encourages an exploration of ethics that helps them understand their world.

The Society of Women Writers is the oldest women's literary association in Australia, established by our beloved authors Ethel Turner, Dorothea MacKellar and Dame Mary Gilmore.

Richly deserved - go Susanne!
